FLINDERS RANGES AND GAMMON RANGES TOUR

We meet at Mambray Creek in the Mt Remarkable National Park from where this tour starts. This park is so close to Adelaide but most people who visit the Flinders Ranges go straight past this lesser known section.

We head into the Flinders Ranges via the picturesque Pichi Richi Pass and then onto Wilpena Pound where there is the opportunity of an optional scenic flight over the ranges.

We drive through Bunyeroo and Brachina Gorges and onto the 'Prairie' at Parachilna for dinner at the pub. This typical country pub is well known for it's 'feral' food and people travel from far and away to experience not only great food but warm country hospitality as well.

Next port of call is the historic township of Beltana and then onto Warraweena Conservation Park where an exiting range of 4 wheel drive tracks are on offer ranging from quite tame to challenging.

The scenery here is stunning so we intend to stay at least a couple of nights. We've also included a cultural experience where we visit Iga Warta Aboriginal Community who have offered us a cultural tour, camp fire and billy tea and damper plus a camp over at their community. This is a cultural experience not to be missed.

The next day we will find ourselves in the heart of the rugged Gammon Ranges. You will find the colour of the ranges just stunning. We travel deeper into the Gammon Ranges and end up at Arkaroola where we go on the Ridgetop Tour using their station vehicles. The scenery on this tour is breathtaking. Just as well you don't have to drive this track with your own vehicle! Grindell's Hut is another one of those beautiful places where you can enjoy ancient landscapes and rugged views across the Gammon Ranges. Where we can we will encourage you to get out of your vehicle for a short scenic walk to enjoy and absorb the beauty of the ranges. There is some more Aboriginal rock-art to be seen along the way before we drop in at Blinman for great coffee and yummy quandong pie.

We've left the best till last and head to Willow Springs, home of the famous Sky Trek where we climb high on top of the ranges taking in the endless views of the Flinders Ranges. You feel on top of the world. Farewell dinner is at the famous Woolshed Inn at Rawnsley Park where they serve excellent food and the hospitality is great. We're slowly heading back via Quorn and Wilmington. We end up at the foot of Mt Remarkable, namely at the historic town of Melrose. It is here that the tour comes to an end. We started our tour on the western slopes of Mt Remarkable and concluded our tour on the eastern side of 'the mount' as they call it in Melrose. What a great highlight of the Flinders Ranges and Gammon Ranges this has been!

Duration: 13 days/14nights

OCEAN TO OUTBACK - SOUTH AUSTRALIA

We've put together a tour of South Australia that has it all. It has all the major highlights from the Ocean to the Outback. We start with a ferry ride from Wallaroo to Lucky Bay and continue our way to Port Lincoln where we visit both Pt Lincoln National Park and Coffin Bay National Park.

After a few days we head north along the coastline to Baird Bay where we can participate in an optional tour to swim with the seals. Continuing along the coast we reach Ceduna from where we head to the Goog's Track. We see the Goog's Track as an introduction to the Simpson Desert: it has many sand dunes, some are up to 25 metres high but the track is only 154 km in length whereas the Simpson Desert is about 500 km long. One of our camp sites will be amongst the black oaks at the foot of Goog's Lake where we can relax, sit back and admire the view.

Continuing on to the Gawler Ranges, we stop at Lake Gairdner which is Australia's fourth largest salt lake and has been the site of several land-speed records. The sight of this lake will take your breath away. We continue our way to Port Augusta and then head towards the Flinders Ranges. We take in Wilpena Pound, Bunyeroo and Brachina Gorge and head for the Prairie Hotel at Parachilna for dinner. This typical country pub is well known for it's 'feral' food and people travel from far and away to experience not only great food but warm country hospitality as well. Not far from here is Warraweena Conservation Park where an exciting range of 4WD tracks are on offer ranging from quite tame to challenging.

The next day we find ourselves in the heart of the rugged Gammon Ranges. You will find the colour of the ranges just stunning. At Arkaroola we enjoy the magnificent scenery that the Ridgetop Tour has to offer. Grindell's Hut is another one of those beautiful places where you can enjoy ancient landscapes and rugged views across the Gammon Ranges. We slowly start to head south now. There is some more Aboriginal rock-art to be seen along the way before we drop in at Blinman for some great coffee and yummy quandong pie. More 4 wheel driving is on our itinerary at the famous Sky Trek where we climb high on top of the ranges taking in the endless views of the Flinders Ranges. You feel on top of the world. Farewell dinner is at the famous Woolshed Inn at Rawnsley Park where they serve excellent food and the hospitality is great. There is one more visit on our itinerary namely the historic town of Melrose at the foot of Mt Remarkable before we reach the city lights of Adelaide. Our Ocean to Outback tour is now complete.

SIMPSON DESERT & BEYOND

The Simpson Desert is a living desert with many species of flora and fauna. It is dominated by a remarkable system of parallel sand ridges with a deep red colouration, something that the Simpson Desert is so well known for.It offers many opportunities for the keen photographer.

On its western side we find the Dalhousie Springs where the water temperature is a warm 35 degrees all year round. This place is a little oasis on the edge of the desert.

The springs are the largest complex of artesian springs in Australia and are home to rare species of fish and other aquatic life. The springs are also a haven for birdlife, including waterfowl and birds of prey, and for reptiles like the Bearded Dragon, the Sand Goanna and the Perentie.

Continuing along the French Track we reach Poeppel Corner, Big Red and Birdsville where we can all enjoy a refreshing cold drink to celebrate our achievement of crossing the Simpson.

Then it’s onto Innamincka and the Coongie Lakes. This is a recognised World Heritage area and is one of Australia's most important arid zone wetlands. The Coongie Lakes are an oasis for wildlife and visitors alike. Over 200 bird species have been recorded here. This area is a bird lovers paradise and should be on every bird lovers MUST SEE list. We slowly head back to Innamincka and the Coopers where you can enjoy a pale ale and maybe a pub dinner as well. We follow the Old Strzelecki Track and head south to the Gammon Ranges. We visit the infamous Grindell’s Hut and explore the beautiful and rugged region of the Gammon Ranges including Arkaroola, Nooldoonooldana waterhole & Bolla Bollana Springs. We wind our way back through the ranges eventually ending up at Parachilna Gorge where the tour comes to an end.

MAGNIFICENT KIMBERLEY ADVENTURE

The magnificent Kimberley is one of our extensive adventures, with commencement and conclusion in Central Australia at Alice Springs.

We travel north along the Stuart Highway to Dunmarra from where we head north east to Timber Creek. Next port of call is Kununurra where we can stock up on fresh food and veggies and the last important supplies before heading into the Kimberley.

Our first visit is to Emma and El Questro Gorges where we have the first of many swims in crystal clear waters of the Kimberley Ranges. We are now in an area where in 2008 the movie “Australia” was filmed and you may see some familiar scenes as we travel the Kimberley.

Traveling along the infamous Gibb River Road we get our first river crossing when we reach the Pentacost River. This is a tidal river and there could be some salties (salt water crocodiles) around so we will definitely take care crossing this river.

Our journey takes us past Home Valley and Ellenbrae before we head north to Drysdale River Station. Here we can enjoy an optional scenic flight or dinner at the homestead. Continuing our way north to the Mitchell Plateau and the Falls we visit some art sites along the way. This is where the Bradshaw art was first discovered. At the Mitchell Plateau we link up with Scenic flights over the Mitchell Falls. This is a life changing experience. Flights are optional, however highly recommended.

After our experience at the Mitchell Falls we head back south to link up with the Gibb River Road once again. The ruggedness and beautiful scenery of the King Leopold Ranges are now well and truly in sight.

Traveling along the 'Gibb' we visit several working cattle stations that have opened up their properties to the tourists. Each of them has got something special to offer for the tourist from picturesque 4WD tracks to private gorges where we can enjoy a safe and refreshing swim in their waterhole, unbelievably relaxing. The bird life at some of these stations is just amazing.

We will now cut through the ranges and head south to Windjana Gorge with its large population of Johnstone (fresh water) crocodiles and its nearby Tunnel Creek. Back on the Great Northern Highway heading east we stop to take a cruise through Geikie Gorge on the mighty Fitzroy River. During the wet season the amount of water that flows through the Fitzroy River could fill up the Sydney Harbour in about 15 minutes. Further on we pass Old Halls Creek on our way to Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungles).

Here we spend a couple of days exploring the outstanding natural and cultural heritage values of this World Heritage listed park which wasn't discovered until the mid 1980's. An optional helicopter flight to view the beehive formations from above is highly recommended.

After visiting Lake Argyle we then make our way into the Gregory National Park. This section is still very much wilderness and unexplored. The area offers some interesting 4 wheel drive tracks and secluded camp locations. After Gregory we hit the Stuart Highway once more and head south to Alice Springs. On arrival at Alice we have completed our loop through ancient landscapes and it is time to reflect on an awesome and unforgettable experience.

Duration 28 days/29 nights

Price per vehicle (2 adults) $5900

KIMBERLEY 'OFF THE BEATEN TRACK'

Having just returned from our recent trip to the Kimberley, we set out to look for some 'off the beaten track' places, places less visited by the average tourist and we certainly found that very special place that we were looking for.

You will definitely need a high clearance vehicle with low ratio gearing and you will need some 4WD experience as well. Along the way we see Wandjina and Bradshaw art and come across numerous creek crossings. It is definitely a very challenging 4WD track.

Once at our destination deep in the Kimberley, we set up camp for a while and set out to explore this pristine area, swim in crystal clear pools and visit the magnificent Bachsten Falls.

Arguable the best waterfalls in the Kimberley, on par with the Mitchell Falls but without the hundreds of people. This place is so 'off the beaten track' that it doesn't get a lot of visitors. It will be the highlight of your visit to the Kimberley. It's possibly not suitable for everybody but that is what makes this place so special. Be one of those few people who have explored this area deep in the heart of the Kimberley.

Duration 28 days/29 nights

Price per vehicle (2 adults) $5900

You may wonder why there is one extra night involved with every tour. What we enjoy is a MEET AND GREET evening before the tour officially starts. On all our tours we meet at a designated camping spot the night before the tour starts so we can all catch up with each other, get to know our fellow travelers and guides and get briefed on the tour details.
